Joining the fund

You may become a member of the Unemployment Fund for Lawyers if you are an employee under 68 years of age and

  • have completed a law degree or
  • are a law student or,
  • by virtue of your tasks, can be compared with a person having completed a law degree.

You cannot be a member of another unemployment fund simultaneously. You must terminate your membership in another unemployment fund when you join the Unemployment Fund for Lawyers.

You can also be a member of the Unemployment Fund for Lawyers even without membership in the trade union.

By joining the Unemployment Fund for Lawyers, you insure yourself against unemployment.

You can join the Unemployment Fund for Lawyers either as a direct member or through the Association of Finnish Lawyers.

Direct Membership

Apply for membership in the Unemployment Fund for Lawyers by submitting a completed membership application form to us.

Membership Through the Association of Finnish Lawyers

If you are applying for membership in the Unemployment Fund for Lawyers and the Association of Finnish Lawyers at the same time, please complete the membership application through the Association of Finnish Lawyers website. If you are already a member of the Association of Finnish Lawyers and want to insure yourself by joining the Unemployment Fund for Lawyers, submit the fund membership application through the membership portal of the Association of Finnish Lawyers. If you are a law student, apply for membership in the unemployment fund by submitting a student member application directly to the fund even though you are already a member of the Association of Finnish Lawyers.

An annual fee is charged for membership in the Unemployment Fund for Lawyers, the amount is EUR 53.00 for 2020. If you join the unemployment fund in the middle of the year, you only pay the membership fee for those months of the year during which you are a member.

If you want to terminate your membership in the Unemployment Fund for Lawyers, please send us a written notification (e.g. a free-form notification by e-mail). Resignation from the employment fund can take effect, at the earliest, on the date when the unemployment fund receives the written notification or from a later date indicated in the notification.

Applying for benefits and conditions for claiming

Applications for earnings-related allowance and follow-up applications may be filed directly in the eAsiointi online service. After signing in to the eService you can change the languagesettings from the world-icon next to the logg out - function. This way the service is available for you in English.

Applications for job alternation compensation and mobility allowance may also be filed in eAsiointi. However, you must first fill in the information in the application form in PDF format, after which the application can be sent as an attachment in eAsiointi.
